As I mentioned in an earlier post, GreenBiz.com recently unveiled their State of Green Business 2008 report. If you want to work in green industry or you are looking to start a green business, download this informative 64 page report for free.
Previously I outline their top ten stories of the year, which provide a great overview of where green industry is growing and expanding.
Today I want to highlight several ways to use their report to spot green career opportunities.
On pages 14 and 15 of the State of Green Business 2008 report, Greener World Media, Inc (www.greenbiz.com) provide a table of the indicators they used to evaluate how "green" green businesses are as of the end of 2007.
If you study the indicators they measured and the write up they provide about each one, you'll discover a number of gaps in how green businesses are currently greening their operations. In addition, you'll see the names of companies that are doing well or at least making a good attempt at being green.
When an industry is as new as the green economy, gaps mean opportunity. Opportunities mean big money as long as they are spotted and acted upon.
- If you are a green entrepreneur looking for your opportunity, I'd study this report for potential business ideas.
- If you plan to be a green employee, I'd still study this report looking for the types of companies and the types of ventures that are likely to take off over the next few years.
- If you are a student who is planning to enter the green economy in a few years, keep your eye on this annual report. Make sure your academic plan is aligned with how things are developing in the real world.
Have fun exploring the new frontier! Hope you find the eco-friendly gold mine you are looking for!
