In a new report from Lux Research, problems of water scarcity need to be studied in order to improve efficiency, reduce costs and pollution. Companies such as IBM are using IT to improve water use efficiency. A growing global population will place even more demand on clean water. Sea water desalinization companies such as Energy Recovery and Nanoasis are using innovation to reduce high costs.
The city of Los Angeles has been studying new, innovative street lighting since 2009. They have chosen to use LED lighting from BetaLED with the expectation of reducing power consumption by 40%. The city is also looking at solar bus stop lighting from Carmanah Technologies.
Improving urban transportation systems can go a long way toward reducing carbon emissions. To study the problem and create solutions, MIT and three universities in Singapore have joined forces for five years. Results of the study will be used to make changes to other urban transportation corridors around the world.
