Green Career Trends: Google Demonstrates New Technology, Toyota Announces Plug-In Hybrid, Simbol Mines Lithium, Top 10 Green West Ski Areas

Using satellites, science, maps and software, Google demonstrated a new technology to observe and measure changes in the earth's forests.  This technology was demonstrated to delegates at the UN International Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen as a way to halt the destruction of forests.

A plug-in hybrid Prius from Toyota is expected in 2011. The vehicle will use a lithium-ion battery to power the car for the first 14 miles after which the gas engine will take over powering the car.  Depending upon how the car is driven, it could deliver as much as 134 miles per gallon.  The price of the car has not been disclosed, but Toyota wants to keep it affordable.

As car makers increase their production of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles using lithium-ion batteries, Simbol Mining has found a way to capture the lithium and other battery chemicals from the brine found at geothermal energy sites.
