A spinoff of lithium-ion battery maker A123, 24M Technologies has secured $10 million from venture capitalists plus an additional 6 million grant from the Department of Energy. 24M is working on batteries that store electricity efficiently for use in grid storage and electric vehicles.
According to Green Tech Media Research, Meter Data Management (managing the data from digital smart meters) is expected to go from $54 million in 2009 to $221 million by 2014 in market capitalization. Companies expected to be leaders in managing the data are eMeter, Aclara, Itron, Ecologic Analytics, EnergyICT, Hansen Technology, NorthStar Utilities Solutions, Oracle, OSIsoft, SAP MDUS and Telvent.
